UDC Men's Lacrosse Conclude the 2022 Season with a Conference Victory Over D'Youville

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia's men's lacrosse team defeated D'Youville College 16-8 in a final matchup of the season, Saturday afternoon at the UDC Field. The Firebirds also celebrated Eric Boco, Nico Tharpe, Daniel Washington, Gerald Futrell, Giovanni Barahona, Jeffrey Vo, Daniel Orebiyi, and Xavier Harris for senior day.

Three Firebirds recorded a hat trick, which included Zander Torres, Joseph Cote, and Boco. Karson Gregory had a team-high three caused turnovers, Carnell Lofton Jr. picked up a game-high nine ground balls and Vo had a team-high three assists. Najee Wilson had 12 saves in the second half of the game.

Both teams went back and forth in the first quarter with UDC striking first and last, taking a 4-2 lead into the second quarter. 

The Firebirds extended that lead to five with goals, one of which came from Julian Schemm with UDC a man down. 

Coming out of the half, Westley Cateux followed through on a pass from Schemm which was followed up by a goal from Vo. The Saints continued to fight as they knocked down three back-to-back goals to bring the game within four points. But Cote, Torres, and Emanuel Jackson Jr knocked down three unanswered goals to extend their lead to seven going into the last quarter.

Both teams struggled in the final stretch, offensively but Boco would seal the deal scoring the only goal of the quarter.

UDC ends the 2022 season with a 3-7, 2-4 ECC record. This marks the first season's completion since the 2019 season.
