Firebirds Soar Past Spartans to Secure First Conference Victory of the Season

SPARKHILL, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's lacrosse team secured their first conference win of the season after defeating STAC 15-10, Monday afternoon at the Spartan Field.

Carnell Lofton Jr. went 22-27 in face-offs while picking up a game-high 11 groundballs and scoring a goal for the Firebirds. Joseph Cote and Eric Boco led the offense scoring four goals apiece

The first half saw both teams going tit for tat with goals. STAC scored first but the Firebirds responded with a goal of their own. This back and forth went on into halftime with the Spartans taking the one-point lead.

STAC extended that lead by two a few minutes into the third quarter but UDC would respond big, going on a 5-0 run to take the two-point lead going into the final stretch.

The Firebirds sealed the deal in the fourth quarter scoring four goals while holding the Spartans to just one, securing their first conference victory of the season.

UDC (2-7, 1-4 ECC) will host their final game of the season on Saturday the 30th at noon. The team will also be celebrating Jacob Saunders, Jeffrey Vo, Nico Tharpe, Gerald Futrell, and Xavier Harris for senior day. The game will be live-streamed on the ECC network.
