Slow Start Proves Detrimental as Firebirds Fall in ECC Match Up Against Frostburg

FROSTBURG, MD- The University of the District of Columbia faced off against Frostburg State in a conference matchup, Thursday afternoon at the Bobcat Stadium. The Firebirds fell 8-17, bringing their record to 1-7 on the season while the Bobcats improved to 7-6.

Jacob Saunders led the Firebirds with two goals and Jeffrey Vo added a goal and an assist. Giovanni Barahona went 2-2 in Faceoffs and Carnell Lofton Jr. went 13-25 while picking up a game-high six ground balls.

While both teams took some time to get into a groove, Frostburg made their way on the scoreboard first, with about 10 minutes to go in the first quarter. This led to a 6-0 run before Vo could stop the bleeding, netting an unassisted goal to get UDC on the board. But this was temporary as the Bobcats went on to score the next seven goals to lead 13-1 going into the break.

The visiting Firebirds outscored the home team 7-4 in the second half with six different players finding the back of the net. But the Deficit in the first half proved too much as they eventually fell 8-17.

UDC (1-7, 0-3 ECC) will head to N.Y. to continue conference play in a matchup against  STAC on Monday the 25th, with a start time of 1:00 pm. The game will be live-streamed on the ECC network.
