UDC Men’s Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Barton

RICHMOND, VA- After almost a two-year hiatus, the University of the District of Columbia's men's lacrosse team was back in action Tuesday night at the Douglas Freeman H.S. field to face off against Barton College. A rough first quarter saw the Firebirds playing catch up, leading to a tough 13-7 loss.

Zander Torres led UDC with a game-high four goals, Joseph Cote posted a game-high three assists and Jacob Saunders had a game-high eight groundballs. Goalie Matthew Miller also had a game-high 18 saves.

The Bulldogs got the early lead in the first quarter outscoring the Firebirds 5-1. UDC's highest-scoring quarter came in the second with three goals but they trailed Barton 9-4 going into halftime.

Coming off the break both teams were even with two apiece in the third but Barton edged out the Firebirds in the fourth and went on to secure the 13-7 victory.

UDC (0-1, 0-0 ECC) is off for the rest of the month but will be back in action on March 2nd when they travel to Chestnut Hill for a 7:00 pm game.
