Slow Start Costs Firebirds in 18-14 Defeat to Dominican (N.Y.)

HILLBURN, NY – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Lacrosse team was defeated 18-14 on their road trip to Dominican in New York on Wednesday afternoon.

The Firebirds (3-5, 0-1 ECC), struggled in the opening quarter allowing their opponents to take an early 3-0 lead, before UDC hit back with Joseph Cote hitting two goals and Zander Torres collecting the third. The Chargers made it difficult for the Firebirds when they grabbed another three goals before the end of the quarter.

The second quarter saw much of the same with the home side taking a commanding 11-3 lead. However, UDC did not give up as they captured four goals through Torres who grabbed another two with his total on the day being five goals and two assists. Senior Turner Allison found himself amongst the action as he saw two goals in the second quarter and went five goals on the day with one assist.

Dominican took a 14-7 lead into the latter stages of the game, but Allison and Cote both struck again in the third but the score line reflected another story with it being 16-10 going into the final quarter.

The Firebirds managed to sneak another four goal past the Chargers, although, the score ended 18-14 leaving UDC with too much of an uphill battle.

UDC will return to action when they visit Post University, Wednesday, March 11th at 1PM.
