Allison in Fine Form as Firebirds Edge to 19-18 Win Over Davis & Elkins

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Lacrosse team was successful in their home match against Davis & Elkins in the ECC GMAC Challenge Cup, as UDC won 19-18 in at the UDC Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Firebirds (3-3, 0-1 ECC) got off to a bright start when Jeffrey Vo struck to make it 1-0. UDC started the first quarter very well with a convincing 4-2 lead through goals by Turner Allison who went on to score four on the day with 13 shots, and Eric Boco who score two back-to-back goals.

The second quarter was incredibly eventful with both sides looking to take control of the game. But the determined Firebirds did not let slip despite goals by opposition offense Nolan Morrison to take the quarter 11-7 going into the latter stages of the game.

UDC continued to keep the Senators at a distance and the third quarter saw a flurry of goals in the space of under a minute. With Allison scoring two identical goals, one assisted by Joseph Cote. The other goal scored by Boco was assisted by Face-off specialist Arthur Phorntavewat.

Going into the final period, the Firebirds seemed confident with their lead of 18-12, however, perhaps a little too relaxed the home side allowed Davis & Elkins the opportunity to fight back.

And after scoring six goals and a minute left on the clock, the score was at 19-18. The Senators unleashed a number of wild shots at goal hoping for an equalizing goal. Goalkeeper Matt Miller stood firm to save 12 shots in the game and deny the visitors.

The Firebirds will return to action on Saturday, February 29th at 12PM against Georgian Court at the UDC Field.
