Firebirds Men’s Lacrosse Defeated 27-11 by Chestnut Hill

LAFAYETTE HILL, PA - The University of the District of Columbia Men's Lacrosse team was facing an uphill battle in their 27-11 loss to Chestnut Hill College, on Saturday afternoon at the Victory Field in Pennsylvania.

The Firebirds (1-2, 0-1 ECC), were travelling to Chestnut Hill with plenty of confidence after their dramatic overtime winner against Barton earlier in the week. However, a strong Griffins side ranked No. 2 in the CACC preseason poll were entering their first game of the season.

With the Firebirds already facing two tough matchups in the past week, they started the game firing all cylinders as senior, Turner Allison put up an early goal to see UDC take a 1-0 lead. The Griffins had other ideas, and instantly replied back with five consecutive goals, and went on to win the first quarter 9-3.

The second quarter saw much of the same from both sides, but freshman Zander Torres who has started his collegiate career in fine form put away two goals in the 2nd with an assist from Allison on the one. This did not stop Chestnut Hill from keeping up their intense pressure as they added another eight in the 2nd to make it 17-6 going into the third quarter.

The third quarter saw the Firebirds struggle to get themselves back in the game, although, the fourth quarter saw UDC show some grit and determination as Jeffrey Vo scored two, along with Eric Boco who added one to take his tally to two for the day. With the game out of reach from the previous periods, the Firebirds could not do enough to pull this game back.

The game saw our Face-Off specialists go 23-40 winning the face-offs in today's fixture with Mack Hidalgo going 10-18 and Arthur Phorntavewat go 13-22.

The UDC Firebirds will return to action when they travel to Felician College on Wednesday 19th February at 4PM.
