Firebirds Open Season with a Tough Conference Loss

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of the District of Columbia Men's Lacrosse team was defeated 18-5 in a battle for a winning start to the East Coast Conference season campaign.  The Firebirds faced off against rivals New York Tech Bears at the UDC Field today.

The UDC Firebirds started off the game positive and looked to gain the upper hand on Tech. But a ruthless opener by The Bears through a goal by Lenny Innamorato made it 1-0 to the visitors. That was short lived when Firebirds Senior, Turner Allison led his team instrumentally to peg the Bears back to make it 1-1 with an assist made by Freshman Jonathon Boyd.

New York Tech would go on to control the 1st period with four more goals, two of which were scored by leading scorer of the day, Joseph Duchnowski. The remaining periods of the game posed a similar struggle for Firebirds with Tech adding to their tally of goals to make it 18-5.

However, UDC did not give up in their fight with the Bears and three Freshman made their UDC debuts somewhat memorable when Jonathon Boyd, Zander Torres, and Joseph Cote all of British Columbia made their marks with three finely taken individual goals, to open their accounts for the Firebirds.

The UDC Firebirds will be hosting again when they face Barton College Tuesday, 11th February at the UDC Field.
