Firebirds Fall Short 19-13 to Chestnut Hill

LAFAYETTE HILL, PA- The University of The District of Columbia Firebirds came up short 19-13 against the Chestnut Hill Griffins on Tuesday night's East Coast Conference matchup at Victory Field.

The Firebirds (7-2, 1-1 ECC) were looking for their next ECC victory but came up short against the Griffins. The Griffins started off the game with two goals back to back but was cut short with sophomore attackman Alan Singleton scoring a goal assisted by senior faceoff Teilen Celentano. It was a long and drawn out possessions between both teams in the first quarter with Chestnut Hill not scoring again until 8:37, the Firebirds answered back four minutes later, again by Alan Singleton and Teilen Celentano with the assist putting the score at 2-3. Chestnut Hill answered back with two goals in the final minutes of the first quarter leaving the score at 2-5 to end the first quarter. Alan Singleton opened the second quarter with the first goal pushing the score up 3-5, Chestnut Hill scored later in the second quarter and was the only goal scored by the Griffins in the second quarter. The Firebirds scored the last goal in the second quarter by senior attackman Zach Hart assisted by junior midfielder Syrrus Nash. The third quarter was a shootout between the Firebirds and Griffins with the Firebirds tailing the Griffins most of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was controlled by the Griffins ending the game 19-13.

The Firebirds offense was led by sophomore attackman Alan Singleton with a game high of six goals, senior midfielder LaRon Hinton had three goals and one assist for four points total and senior attackman Zach Hart had three goals. Junior midfielder Tyler Mace had one goal and junior midfielder Syrrus Nash with two assists.

Defensively junior goalkeeper Nikolas Lund-Murray saved 11 out 30 shots. Sophomore defensemen Connor Mosby and Garrin Adolphe both had two groundballs.

The Chestnut Hill Griffins were led by freshman midfielder J.R Howell with five goals, senior attackman Dylan Klusaritz with three goals and three assists, junior midfielder Nicholas Webber with three goals, sophomore attackman Scott Wilden with two goals and one assist and junior midfielder Josh Bennett with two goals.

The Griffins outshot the firebirds 50-44, but the Firebirds won the groundball battle 39-34.

Next the Firebirds will face St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday March 31 at St. Thomas Aquinas at 3pm.
