Flying Start for the Firebirds as they Win 21-4 Against Felician

LODI, NJ - The University of the District of Columbia's men's lacrosse team won their season opener against Felician College while also beating last year's scoring high's with a new record of 21 goals.

The Firebirds (1-0, 0-0 ECC) started their season opener with 2nd year Head Coach Rodger Colbert imposing a 21-4 win against the Golden Eagles during their collegiate debut. With a strong performance by the offense and defense, at the beginning the Firebirds showed their power by dominating the first quarter 6-2. Multiple offensive leaders, sophomore Edmund Taylor with five goals and two assists, junior attackman Zach Hart with five goals and three ground balls, sophomore attackman Alan Singleton contributing two goals and four assists, senior midfielder Laron Hinton with two goals and three assists, and freshman attackman Turner Allison with two goals and one assist contributed to the victory. Leading at face-off senior Midfielder, Teilen Celentano went (21-23) for 91 %-win rate while also providing one goal and one assist and 10 ground balls.

Defensively junior goalie Nikolas Lund-Murray had six saves and saw 17 shots from the Golden Eagles. Sophomore Connor Mosby had a breakout season opening game with one goal, 11 ground balls and 5 caused turnovers to help keep the Golden Eagles caged.

Felician College, a 1st year program may not have had the result they wanted but fought hard. Offensive leaders included freshman attackman Daniel Wright with two of the four goals and providing one assist as well as freshman midfielder Anthony Major II with one goal and Anthony Hanratty also with one goal. Freshman goalie Pat Hemmer stopped 15 of 33 shots faced, while Billy Adedo stopped two of five shots seen.

The Firebirds outshot the Golden Eagles 53 to 17, while also controlling the groundball battles 50 to 22 and ultimately winning the game.

The next opponent the Firebirds will face is the Hampton University Pirates in Hampton, VA.
