Ben Taylor Earns Capital One Second Team Academic All-American Honors

AUSTIN, TX – Senior Ben Taylor of the University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team was named Capital One Second Team Academic All-American for the Men's Division II At-Large Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The Capital One Academic All-America program seeks to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Taylor (Biology – New Westminster, British Columbia/Simon Fraser University) just finished a terrific two-year academic and athletic career at UDC. A Biology major with a 4.0 GPA, he is also an active member of both the Biology Club and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity. Taylor spearheaded a community service project with his fraternity that managed to collect 800 articles of clothing and toiletries for the DC General Emergency Family Shelter. Athletically, he registered 28 points on 26 goals and two assists in the first two years of existence for the start-up UDC men's lacrosse program.

Taylor, who participated in the 38th Annual UDC Commencement on Saturday, May 9th, has a career goal to become a large animal veterinarian.

He is the 3rd different UDC student-athlete to earn Academic All-America status in the last three years, with Kaydian Jones ('14) earning 3rd Team honors in 2014 and Miguel Uzcategui 3rd Team honors in 2013 and 2014. Taylor is the 4th UDC student-athlete Academic All-American in the school's history, with women's basketball standout Alice Butler earning 1st Team honors in 1981. Taylor is, however, the first UDC Academic All-American representing either start-up lacrosse program (men's or women's) as both teams just completed their second season this spring.
