Firebirds Men’s Lacrosse Defeated at Dowling, 20-10

SHIRLEY, NY – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team was defeated, 20-10 by East Coast Conference foe Dowling on Saturday afternoon at Golden Lions Field.

The Firebirds (2-6, 1-4 ECC) were led offensively by Chase Fraser (Elementary Education – Aldergrove, BC/Blue Ridge HS) with four points on two goals and two assists. Quinton Pavan (Childhood Education – Port Coquitlam, BC/Blue Ridge HS) registered a team-high three goals, and sophomore Brock Thompson-Marshall (Business Management – Sooke, BC/Claremont Secondary) added a goal and two assists.

Dowling (3-6, 2-2 ECC) had six multiple-goal scorers, including Scott Reece's game-high five goals. Brian White led all scorers with 10 points on three goals and a game-high seven assists.

UDC had a 42-33 edge in groundballs, but was charged with six faceoff violations and had 25 turnovers to Dowling's 16. The Golden Lions out-shot UDC 43-24 as a result.

Dowling scored the first three goals of the game and led 4-1 at the end of the first quarter. The Firebirds opened the second quarter on a 3-0 surge and knotted the score at 4 after Thompson-Marshall's goal at the 11:33 mark. Reece and Kevin Parker scored back-to-back goals to put Dowling back up by two, 6-4, but Pavan and Fraser answered with back-to-back goals to force another tie at six. Dowling would score three of the final four goals of the half and take a 9-7 advantage at the break.

The Golden Lions dominated the 3rd quarter, opening the second half on a 6-0 run and opening up a 15-7 advantage. They out-shot UDC 14-3 in the period and out-scored the Firebirds 8-1 to extend their lead to 17-8 heading into the final quarter.

Teilen Celentano (Accounting – Ottawa, ON/E.S.P. Louis-Riel) scored his 2nd goal of the game and Pavan added his 3rd in the 4th quarter, but Dowling's White scored one goal and Reece added a pair, as the Golden Lions cruised to a 10-goal margin of victory.

Next up, UDC will host ECC foe Chestnut Hill on April 10th at 5:30 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson HS.
