UDC Men’s Lacrosse Second Half Breakdown Leads to Lopsided Loss vs. Bentley
ARLINGTON, VA – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-3 loss vs. regional foe Bentley Wednesday afternoon at Long Bridge Park.
The Firebirds (1-1) led 1-0 after the first quarter and headed into halftime trailing only 4-2, but the visiting Falcons of the Northeast-10 Conference broke the game open with nine goals in the third quarter as they out-scored UDC 13-1 in the second half en-route to a lopsided victory. Bentley evened its record (1-1) with its first victory of the season today.
Sophomore midfielder Quinton Pavan (Childhood Education – Port Coquitlam, British Columbia/Blue Ridge HS) tallied his 5th and 6th goals of the season with his second consecutive multi-goal game to start the year. Sophomore Russel Lloyd (Political Science – Clifton, VA/Robinson Secondary) added his first goal of the season as well.
Defensively, senior Phillip Foster had a team-high two caused turnovers and junior goalkeeper Pat Payne (Environmental Science – Catonsville, MD/CCBC Catonsville) stopped 19 of 36 shots he faced in a losing effort.
Eight different Falcon student-athletes scored including attack John Wheeler with a game-high four goals. Reserve Matt Dente added three goals, and attack Cutler Dimond pitched in with two goals and two assists.
Bentley out-shot UDC 57-32 for the game, including 31-13 in the second half. The Falcons were also the more efficient team, successfully completing all 23 of their clears compared to UDC's 14-of-25. UDC had nine more turnovers (26-17) and three more penalties (7-4) than the Falcons.
The Firebirds will return to action on Tuesday, March 17th as they open East Coast Conference play with a road game at LIU Post.
