UDC Men’s Lacrosse Suffers Loss in First ECC Game at Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, NY – The University of the District of Columbia men's lacrosse team was defeated by Roberts Wesleyan, 17-3 in its first ever East Coast Conference game Saturday afternoon.

The Firebirds (0-2, 0-1 ECC) were led by sophomore midfielder Luke Gillespie (Business Management – Maple Ridge, BC/Pfeiffer University) with two goals and a game-high six ground balls. Freshman attack Chase Fraser (Elementary Education – Aldergrove, BC/Blue Ridge School) took a team-high nine shots and scored the other Firebird goal.

The Redhawks (3-0, 1-0 ECC) were led by Mike Hubert and reigning ECC player of the week, Dom Cianfarano, who scored four goals apiece. Roberts Wesleyan owned a 54-26 advantage in shots, a 46-23 advantage in ground balls and won 18-of-24 face-offs.

Hubert scored the only goal by either team in the first quarter, finishing off of an assist from Matt Benedict at the 12:06 mark. Fraser evened the score in the 2nd quarter at the 12:20 mark with Matt Marrett assisting. But the Redhawks would go on a 6-0 run spanning the 2nd and 3rd quarters, helped along by two consecutive unassisted goals by Cianfarano. RWC went on to out-score UDC 12-2 in the second half and cruise to a lopsided victory.

The Firebirds will look to bounce back on Tuesday, March 4th at 4:30 p.m. when they host the University of the District of Columbia's first ever lacrosse game vs. Mount Olive.
