Bio

William West begins his second season as an assistant men's basketball coach. 
Last season West and the Firebirds enjoyed a trip to the ECC Men's Basketball Tournament where the team won their first ECC tournament game since joining the conference. West also recruited and assisted in developing All-ECC second-team guard Mike Aiken and ECC First team guard Jahmir-Marable Williams who also earned second-team Boxtorow All-American.
 
A native of Washington DC West, he came to UDC after a successful stint as an Assistant (2016-2018) and Head Coach 2018-2022 at the Prince George's Community College. As the assistant at PGCC West was directly responsible for recruiting and developing NJCAA All-American and All-MD Juco Team Alex Morales, All-MD Juco Mykal Johnson, and All-MD Juco Gus Stone. PGCC won the MD Juco Tournament championship in 2016-2017. West was promoted to Head Men's Basketball Coach following the 2018 season. While the Head Coach at PGCC West recruited and developed All MD Juco guard Tunde Scrivner to join the owls for the 2018-2019 campaign where PG went on to capture the Region XX championship led by Scrivner and the aforementioned Morales who would also be named MD Juco Player of the year and be chosen to play in the NJCAA all-star game in Las Vegas Nevada. During the 2019-2020 season, West recruited and developed All Md Juco Forward Isaiah Miles who along with All MD Juco 1st team guard Scrivner led the Owls back to the Region XX championship. The 2021-22 season saw the Owls capture another Region XX championship led by Freshman All-American Saveon Jackson and Freshman Region XX tournament MVP Anthony Perry. Overall West was responsible for transitioning 20+ student-athletes to four-year programs while at PG with  17 receiving their AA degrees.  
 
Prior to coaching West served in the US Navy while in the Navy he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Maryland Asia and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the District of Columbia in Political Science.
