Firebirds Comeback Fall Short

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team fell to the College of Staten Island 77-82, Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex.

Tevin Curtis led all scorers will 21 points, six rebounds three assists and two steals. Eric Morgan Jr scored 18 and Vernon Simmons was the only other double-digit scorer for UDC with 16.

The home team got off to a slow offensive start as the visitors went on a 21-4 run in the opening nine minutes. The Firebirds battled their way cutting the deficit down to just three heading into half-time. 

During the second half, the visitors opened up ten point leads a couple of times but the Firebirds refused to let them get too far ahead, cutting the deficit every time. Curtis knocked down a trey with just 27 seconds to go, making it a two point game. CSI was able to hold off UDC, with layup and a free throw to close out the game. 

The Firebirds shot the ball at 43.3% from the field compared to CSI's 41.8%. The visitors held the advantage in rebounds (44-42) and points in the paint (34-26). 

UDC (8-13, 6-6 ECC) will head to N.Y. next Thursday to face off against Daemen University.
