Campbell Posts Double-Double but Firebirds Fall Short Against Nationally Ranked Spartans

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team fell to #16 St Thomas Aquinas College 98-88, Wednesday night at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. The Firebirds slip to 3-5, 1-2 in league play while the Spartans improved to 9-1, 2-0 in the conference.

Micah Campbell posted his first doule-double of the season with 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Hartnel Haye led the Firebirds in scoring with a season high 22 points going 7-9 from the field and 8-10 from the charity stripe. Eric Morgan Jr added 17 points, while grabbing eight rebounds and five assists. Vernon Simmons came off the bench to round out double-figure scoring with 13 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three assists.

UDC shot 46.4% from the field and STAC shot at 44.4%. The Firebirds outrebounded the Spartans (45-41) and had the upper hand with points in the paint (48-38). STAC forced more tuurnovers (21-17) and was able to convert more points off of those turnovers (29-21).

Up next, UDC (3-5, 1-2 ECC) will hosy Mercy University on Saturday in their final conference match upo of the year. The Game is slated to begin at 3:00 pm.
