Firebirds Defeat Bulldogs for Second Consecutive Year

WASHINGTON, DC- the University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team defeated cross town rival, Bowie State University in a thrilling 68-67 victory, Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. This marks the Firebirds second consecutive win over the bulldogs, after defeating them last year on their home court 91-88.

Three Firebirds scored in double-figures with Eric Morgan Jr and Tevin Curtis leading the way with 18 and 17 points. Hartnel Haye also posted 13 points. Curtis and Haye also had a game-high eight rebounds.

It was a nail biter from start to finish as the game saw seven ties and 16 different lead changes. The Firebirds took a slight five point lead into the half with Morgan Jr leading the way with 14.

With 21 seconds remaining in regulation and the Bulldogs up 67-64, Curtis took it all the way to the rim for a layup cutting the deficit down to just one point with 12 seconds to go. Morgan jr went on to seal the Firebirds fate after downing two at the charity stripe to bring the final score to 68-67.

The firebirds shot the ball at 50.9% from the field  while the visiitng Bulldogs shot at 42.1%. They were also better off the glass grabbing 38 rebounds compared to the visitors 29. Both teams matched up evenly in the paint with 32 points apiece.

Up next, UDC (2-2) will head to Bloomfield College next Wednesday for a 2:00pm tip-off.
