UDC Men's Basketball Falls at Roberts Wesleyan 95-87
ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team fell to conference foe Roberts Wesleyan College 95-87 on the road. The Firebirds fell to 7-18, 6-9 in league play, and the Redhawks improved to 9-9, 7-6 on the season.
Kenyon Stone led UDC with 22 points going 9-13 from the field while also grabbing four rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block. He was followed by teammate Hartnel Haye who scored 21 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Juanye Colon had 19 points knocking down five from behind the arc while also grabbing a team-high three steals. Jahmir Marable-Williams rounded out double-figure scoring for the Firebirds with 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
UDC was able to edge out RWC 43-41 in the first half, shooting at 50% from the field. Colon and Haye teamed up to give UDC their first 12 points and the early lead.
With 14:13 to go in the second half, the home team would take the lead after Amari Lee drew contact on a made layup to make a three-point play. The visiting Firebirds would trail over the next several minutes but a jumper from behind the arc followed by a layup by Marable-Williams gave UDC the three-point lead with just 6:37 remaining on the clock.
A series of lead changes and a couple of ties later saw the Redhawks finishing on top 95-87.
UDC (7-18, 6-9 ECC) will host the College of Staten Island on Saturday the 19th in a conference doubleheader at the UDC Gymnasium.
