Firebirds Fall to Nationally Ranked Spartans

WASHINGTON, DC.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team fell to nationally-ranked St Thomas Aquinas College 103-71, Wednesday night at the UDC Gymnasium. The Firebirds fell to 3-14, 2-5 in the ECC, and the Spartans improved to 11-3, 4-0 in league play.

Kenyon Stone came off the bench to lead all scorers with 19 points going 7-12 from the field, 4-4 from the foul line, and 1-2 from behind the arc. He was followed by teammate Hartnel Haye who added 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Jahmir Marable-Williams rounded out the double-figure scoring with 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

UDC had a strong start going on a 7-0 run in the opening minutes, but STAC was able to tie the game up 12-12 and go on to open a 22-point lead going into the half. Despite putting up 42 points in the second the Firebirds couldn't make up the by deficit as the visiting Spartans cruised to a 103-71 victory.

UDC (3-14, 2-5 ECC) will be on the road for the rest of the month. They will travel to Mercy on Saturday, to face off against the Mavericks at 2:00 pm. The game will be live-streamed on the ECC network.
