Haye Leads Firebirds with a Season and Game High 17 points; UDC Falls to Bridgeport 74-70

BRIDGEPORT, CONN.- The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team fell to the University of Bridgeport, Wednesday evening at the Conn-Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium. UDC fell to 3-12, 2-3 in ECC play and Bridgeport improved to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Freshman forward Hartnel Haye went 7-9 from the field, 2-2 from the foul line, and 1-1 from behind the arc to tally a game and season-high 17 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds and added an assist, a block, and a steal. Juanye Colon was the second highest scorer with 16 points and Jahmir Marable-Williams also packed the stat sheet posting another double-double on the season with 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals. David Buriss came off the bench to add 10 points going 5-6 from the field, while also grabbing eight rebounds.

The visiting Firebirds got off to an immaculate start going on a 24-3 run in the first nine minutes of the first half. The purple Knights responded with a 13-0 run of their own to bring the game back in reach, but UDC still managed to pull away with a 41-28 lead going into the break.

The second half saw a completely different story, as UB rallied to score 46 points which gave them the edge they needed to defeat UDC 74-70. The home team outrebounded the visiting Firebirds 29-14, shooting at 45.2% while also holding them to 36.1%.

UDC (3-12, 2-3 ECC) will host Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday at 1:00 pm in the UDC Gymnasium. Spectators will not be allowed but the game will be live-streamed on the ECC network.
