UDC Firebirds Fall 74-64 to the Daemen Wildcats at Home

WASHINGTON, DC- The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team fell to conference foe Daemen College, at the UDC Gymnasium, Monday evening. The firebirds saw their conference record fall to 2-2 while the Wildcats improved to a perfect 4-0 in ECC play.

ECC Player of the week Jahmir Marable-Williams led the Firebirds with a season-high 19 points while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds, four steals, and four assists. He was followed by UDC's other double-figure scorer Kenyon Stone who added 16 points and four rebounds.

The visiting Wildcats made their way on the scoreboard first going on a 10-0 scoring run. The Firebirds struggled to net a basket in the first four minutes of play, but Marable-Williams was able to cut that drought sinking two shots from the free-throw line after drawing a foul from a missed layup on a fast break from a steal. Freshman Tevin Curtis would follow that up with a 3 pointer to make it a 5-point game.

Daemen went on to have a couple of scoring runs extending their lead, but UDC responded with runs of their own, with the lowest deficit being four points. The visiting team would extend that lead 36-29 going into halftime.

The Firebirds would put more numbers on the board in the second half, keeping them in contention, but the Wildcats still managed to pull away with the win shooting 53.3% from the field.

UDC was outrebounded 45-29 but had more forced turnovers having 10 steals to Daemen's three. The Firebirds were held to just 38.7% shooting from the field.

UDC (3-10, 2-2 ECC) will take a week off over the Christmas Holiday before traveling to face off against Holy Family College on Thursday, December 30th with a tip-off time of 5:00 pm.
