UDC Men’s Basketball Picks Up First Conference Win of the Season Over Queens College

WASHINGTON, DC. –Junior transfer guard, Kenyon Stone matched his season-high 25 points to lead the Firebirds to a 74-62 victory over conference foe Queens College, Saturday afternoon at the UDC Gymnasium. UDC improved to 2-8, 1-1 in conference play and the Knights dropped to 2-4, 0-2 in the ECC.

Stone went 9-12 from the field, 6-6 from the foul line, and 1-1 from behind the arc to register a game-high 25 points. He also pulled in five rebounds two assists. Freshman forward Phillip Brown Jr came off the bench to knock down 14 points going 6-11 from the field and grabbing four boards and assists and a steal. Teammate David Buriss also contributed 10 points, five rebounds, and five blocks.

UDC outscored the visiting Knights in the first half shooting at 62.5% from the field while holding them to just 40.6%. Stone and Buriss led the charge with 12 and 10 points apiece. While Queens took the early lead a 14-2 run by the   Firebirds would give them the edge going into the half.

The Knights started off the second half with a couple of made free throws by Eddie Mehmetaj and a layup by Dion Herrington to even out the score 35-35. UDC responded going on a 19-8 to gain an 11-point lead with 9:52 remaining in regulation.

In the end, UDC ran away with victory shooting 59.3% from the field while the Knights struggled shooting at 37.9%. The Firebirds were also able to outrebound Queens 19-15

UDC (2-8, 1-1 ECC) is back in action at home on Wednesday, December 15 against Frostburg College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
