UDC Falls to Molloy 66-56 in Conference Opener

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y-The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team fell to Molloy College in both teams' conference opener, Wednesday night at the Quealy Gymnasium. The Firebirds fell to a 1-6, 0-1 ECC record while the Lions improved to 1-6, 1-0 in ECC play.

The Firebirds were led offensively by Kenyon Stone who posted 16 points. Jahmir Marable-Williams also packed the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and five steals.

Molloy made their way on the scoreboard first but both teams matched up even all around for the first 10 minutes of the first half. The Lions would slowly pull away from the Firebirds opening the lead to nine points going into the half.

An 11-1 run in favor of the home team saw the Firebirds quickly falling behind with the largest deficit at 19 points with 14:33 remaining on the clock. UDC then buckled down and went on a scoring run of their own to chip the lead down to just eight points with a few minutes remaining in regulation. Unfortunately, the visiting Firebirds couldn't pull the upset and dropped 66-56 to end the game.

UDC (1-6,0-1) will host Bowie State, in a doubleheader on Saturday the 4th. Men's tip-off is set for 3:00 pm.
