High-Scoring Game as Firebirds Defeated 119-97 against Bridgeport.

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team fell short against the East Coast Conference foe University of Bridgeport 119-97 on Wednesday evening at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium. 

The Firebirds were up against the number one team in the ECC. Bridgeport now has a record of 20-4 and 13-1 in ECC play with 11 straight wins. UDC (5-18, 3-11 ECC) was involved in an early battle with the Purple knights and were showing positive signs, however, the red-hot Purple Knights showed their quality in the 1st half ending 56-39. The 2nd half was where we saw the Firebirds push. The District of Columbia was led by freshman forward Maurice Waters who scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. 

UDC featured solid performances along with freshman Maurice Waters this evening; with junior guard Danny Shand on 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals, senior guard Khalil Jackson had 16 points, six rebounds, and two assists, junior guard Kevin cox continued his fine form with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists, and junior guard Quadire Truesdale chipped in with 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists. 

Bridgeport displayed some fine performances with senior guard Sharif Cobb putting up 19 points, and senior guard Sam Joseph adding 11 points, seven rebounds, and seven steals. 

Next, the Firebirds will host to ECC foe Mercy College during the Masonic Classic on Saturday, February 10th at 1pm.
