Joseph Nickerson Earns East Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – The University of the District of Columbia's Joseph Nickerson was named East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his performance in the Firebirds' 108-89 win over New York Institute of Technology on Saturday, February 11th. This marks his 3rd ECC Player of the Week honor this season.

Nickerson, who was coming off what was previously a career-high 35-point scoring effort last Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas, finished Saturday's game vs. the Bears with a new career high of 37 points – marking the 2nd game in a row and the 4th time in his career he has scored over 30 points in a game. He connected on his first three shot attempts of the game – all three-pointers – and helped UDC race out to an early 13-2 lead, from which, the Firebirds never looked back. For the entire game, he shot 12-of-18 (67-percent) from the field, 5-of-7 (71-percent) from long range, and 8-of-9 (89-percent) at the foul line.

Also, Nickerson entered Saturday's game ranked No. 2 in the nation for steals per-game (3.0), and went out and tied his career-high with six thefts while also hauling in a team-best nine rebounds and handing out two assists.

Nickerson and the Firebirds (12-10, 9-5 ECC) visit ECC foe LIU Post on Wednesday, February 15th and then return to the nation's capital to host Mercy College on Sunday, February 19th.
