University of the District of Columbia Falls to NYIT in ECC Road Game

OLD WESTBURY, NY – Freshman guard Reggie Sidbury notched his second consecutive 18-point scoring effort, but the University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team suffered a 80-61 loss to East Coast Conference foe, NYIT on Saturday afternoon in Recreation Hall.

Sidbury (Social Work – Landover, MD/Charles Herbert Flowers HS), who has now scored in double-figures in eight games his rookie season, shot 6-of-15 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range in 29 minutes off the bench.

The ECC's leading rebounder coming into the week, junior transfer forward Lenjo Kilo (Biology – Silver Spring, MD/Seton Hill) also added 12 points and nine rebounds, and sophomore guard Omar Abbas (Electrical Engineering – Alexandria, Egypt/Egyptian American HS) pitched in 12 points and five rebounds.

NYIT (9-11, 7-7 ECC)  featured five double-figure scorers including former Firebird Phil Izevbehai's game-high 22 points (9-of-14 FG shooting) and Jahleel Felix's 21 points. Also, Markus Moore finished with a game-high 13 rebounds to go with 10 points.

The Bears and Firebirds each took 66 shot attempts, but it was the Bears who were the much better shooting team, making 33 attempts (50-percent) to UDC's 24 (36-percent). NYIT out-scored UDC 46-24 in points in the paint and had a 41-37 edge in rebounding.

The Firebirds will come home to host Bridgeport in a rescheduled game on Monday, February 10th at 7 p.m. in the nation's capital.
