The Firebirds host East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the nation's capital for their annual "Coaches vs. Cancer" game. The coaching staff will wear sneakers to promote cancer awareness, and all proceeds from the game will go directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Updating the Firebirds

District of Columbia currently owns the East Region's longest losing streak of nine straight games. The Firebirds most recently suffered a lopsided, 85-68 defeat at league-leading NYIT. Senior guard Keith Brooks (Journalism – Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancy HS) stepped up with a career-high 20 points and four assists and junior transfer guard Ralph Watts (Sociology – Peekskill, NY/UAlbany) pitched in with a game-high nine rebounds in a losing effort for the Firebirds. District of Columbia currently ranks dead last in the ECC in field goal percentage (37.7), rebounding margin (-12.7), points per-game allowed (80.4) and opponents' field goal percentage (50.1).

Scouting St. Thomas Aquinas

The Spartans snapped a five-game losing streak on Saturday with an 85-73 victory at home over ECC newcomer, Roberts Wesleyan. Leading the way for STAC its last time out were Justin Brown and Sean James, who scored 24 and 18 points, respectively. The Spartans are among the league leaders in both shooting and taking away the three-pointer. They rank 2nd in three-pointers made per-game (6.4) and 3rd in opponents' three-point field goal percentage (32.2).

The Matchup

Wednesday night's matchup pits two teams that have struggled in the early portion of the season and are trying to gain their footing. The Spartans, who are 0-8 this season on the road, hope they turned a corner with their double-digit win over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. The Firebirds, who have not won a game since their home opener against USciences on November 10th, are looking to right the ship with their first conference win of the season. District of Columbia swept the season series last year, which included a very slim, 63-62 victory over the Spartans at home the last time these two met on January 28th, 2012.
