Eight teams are selected by eight different regional committees throughout the country. District of Columbia belongs to the East Region.

The UDC women's basketball team is 21-6 on the season and entered the week ranked No. 5 in the East Region poll. Meanwhile, the men's team entered the week ranked No. 23 in the country and No. 6 in the East Region poll with a record of 22-5.

Both teams earned first-round byes in this week's East Coast Conference Tournament but lost their respective semifinal games on Saturday.
