GAME PREVIEW: University of the District of Columbia Men's Basketball vs. C.W. Post

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team takes on the top team in the East Coast Conference standings, C.W. Post in a battle for a three-way share of first-place on Saturday, January 21st at 3:00 p.m.

C.W. Post is 12-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in league play while UDC is 14-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference. These are the two best scoring offenses in the league, as the Pioneers average a league-best 85.2 ppg and the Firebirds put up 80.6 points per-contest.

UDC recently bounced back from its first Division II loss of the season with a dominant performance to beat Mercy, 90-58 on Wednesday night. Senior guard Brandon Herbert (Baltimore, MD - McDonough HS), who was honored before Wednesday night's game for going over 1,000 points in his career last Saturday at Bridgeport, scored 20 of his game-high 27 points in the second half as the Firebirds soared past the Mavericks at UDC Gym. Herbert ranks 8th in Division II in three-point field goals per-game (3.3) and 16th in free-throw percentage (90.6).

Meanwhile, the reigning ECC Tournament champion, C.W. Post has won five straight games, and by an average margin of 19.2.  The Pioneers are led by the leading scorer in the conference, Stefan Bonneau (21.6 ppg) and Tobin Carberry (19.3 ppg).

UDC puts its 14-game home winning streak that dates back to last year on the line as these two teams meet for the first time. Fans who cannot make it to the game can watch via a live video webcast on www.udcfirebirds.com.

C.W. Post holds a 2-1 all-time series advantage, but District of Columbia earned a 77-67 victory the last time these two met on Jan. 23, 1988.
