PREVIEW: University of the District of Columbia Men's Basketball vs. Mercy

WASHINGTON, DC - The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team will look to shake off its first Division II loss of the season at Bridgeport on Saturday as the Firebirds host East Coast Conference foe Mercy College on Wednesday, January 18th at 7:30 p.m.

District of Columbia had the longest win streak in the East Region (11) snapped on Saturday with a 77-75 loss to Bridgeport in its last outing on Saturday. The loss dropped the Firebirds from their No. 22 ranking out of the top-25 and their record fell to 13-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Senior guard Brandon Herbert (Baltimore, MD - McDonough HS) went over 1,000 points for his career with an 18-point scoring effort on Saturday. His accomplishment will be recognized before the game. Herbert currently ranks 7th in Division II for three-point field goals per game (3.9) and 20th in the nation in free-throw percentage (89.8).

Herbert's counterpart, senior guard Nigel Munson (Washington, DC- DeMatha HS) is also ranked 7th in the nation for assists per-game (6.4). He is now closing in the 1,000-point plateau as well, needing just 49 points to reach the milestone.

Meanwhile, Mercy comes into Wednesday night's game with an overall record of 1-13 and a conference mark of 0-5. The Mavericks' only win this year came at Nyack on Dec. 3. In their five conference losses this year, they have lost by an average of 14.4 per-contest. MC is led by junior guard Colin Senior, who averages 14.0 ppg.
