Firebird Men Advance To 7-1 With Win Over Washington Adventist, 104-86

The University of the District of Columbia Men's basketball team entered a tough local road venue last night and earned a solid victory over the Shock of Washington Adventist University by a score of 104-85. UDC moves to 7-1 on the year. WAU falls to 3-5.

The Firebirds were led by senior guard Nigel Munson (Washington, DC - DeMatha HS ) with 32 points. He added 7 assists and 5 rebounds to his totals. 6-11 senior center Diyaaldin Kelly (Philadelphia, PA - Mariana Bracetti HS) chipped in with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Senior guard Dishawn Bradshaw  (Baltimore, MD - St.Frances Academy) had 16 points as well.

Head Coach Jeff Ruland described the victory as a "total team effort."  "We played a solid all around game.  Our defense stepped up in the second half, which was key.  Nigel [Munson] took control and was able to break the press and get into their defense."  The Firebirds out rebounded the Shock, 34-28.

WAU was led by 6-8 senior Marcus Coleman (Flint, MI)with 29 points and 7 rebounds. WAU point guard, Jamie Newton (Laurel, MD) added 26 points to go with 6 assists.

The University of the District of Columbia Men's basketball team will next play in Fairmont, WV and take on the Falcons of Fairmont State Wednesday, December 7th at 730pm.
