UDC blows out Apprentice School 106-78 for season sweep

Washington, DC: February 16, 2011 – The UDC men's basketball team (9-14) continued their impressive play at home this season, taking the two-game season series from the Apprentice School Builders (10-12) with a 106-78 victory tonight at the UDC sports complex.

The win was the seventh at home for the Firebirds this season, and all seven home wins have come in the last eight home games. Overall UDC is now 9-6 in its last 15 games, since starting the season 0-8.

Tonight, it was the Firebirds impressive three-point shooting that got the team off to a fantastic start. UDC led 21-0 less than five minutes into the game thanks to seven made three-pointers in eight attempts. The Firebirds would go on to make 10 treys out of 17 attempts (58.8%) in the first half as they built up an insurmountable 28-point lead at the break.

Apprentice School shot well from the floor in the first half, going 11 of 24 from the field (45.8%). However, the Builders only took two three-point field goals, and missed them both. They were also forced into 17 turnovers, which did them in.

Leading the Firebirds in scoring for a fourth consecutive game was junior guard Brandon Herbert (Sociology – Baltimore, MD), who had 28 points on 9 of 13 shooting from the field, and 6 of 8 shooting from behind the arc. Senior guard Tim Ellison (Mass Media – Alexandria, VA) and junior guard Nigel Munson (Graphic Design – Washington, DC) each added 18 points, and Munson had a double-double with 12 assists. Also in double figures with 11 points was sophomore guard Keith Brooks (Mass Media – Harlem, NY).

Sophomore guard Tevin Andrews led the way for the Builders with 20 points and 11 boards. Junior forward Isaih Harrison also had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
