UDC's Brandon Herbert's Game -High 26 Point Performance Not Enough to Overcome Tampa

Tampa, Fl: November 23, 2010-- Brandon Herbert (Sociology-Baltimore, MD) scored a game-high 26 points for the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Basketball Team against the University of Tampa, tonight, but it was not enough to bring the win home, as they fell to the Spartans, 82-60,  at the Bob Martinez Sports Center in Tampa, Florida. After getting off to a quick 4-point lead early in the game, the Firebirds cooled off and could not overcome Tampa's 41 to 24 rebound advantage, and 89 percent (16-18) free-throw shooting that lifted them to the win.

The Spartans raced off to a 17 point lead in the first half on 46 percent (13-28) field goal shooting and a 90 percent (9-10) completion rate from the charity stripe, while shooting 27 percent (4-15) from three-point range. The Firebirds shot 35 percent (10-29) from the field, 18 percent (2-11) from beyond the arc and 100 percent (2-2) from the free-throw line.

The second half was much of the same, as Tampa opened a 28-point lead with 7:07 remaining. The Spartans had a 28-12 advantage in scoring from the bench, and had a (13-6) advantage in second chance points. Tampa also held the upper hand in points scored in the paint (26-16).

Herbert was the only Firebird to reach double digit scoring, with sophomore forward Dyrek Jones (Accounting-Brooklyn, NY) following with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist. Glyn Hunter and Rashad Callaway led the Spartan scoring with 17 points apiece.

UDC (0-5) returns to action November 29,  at home, at 7 p.m., against Clarion University. The game will be broadcast through the UDC Athletics Web Site-www.udc.firebirds.com. Click on "Game Central" to listen live.
