Firebirds Fall to Villanova

Philadelphia, PA: November 2, 2010-- Senior guard Tim Ellison (T.V. Broadcasting-Alexandria, VA) scored a game-high 25 points for the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds tonight as they played the NCAA Division I Villanova Wildcats, for the first time ever,  in an exhibition game at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is also the first time that the Firebirds have played aI top tenDI basketball team. Ellison was the only UDC player to reach double figures in the game.

The Wildcats defeated the Firebirds 95-58. Junior guard Brandon Herbert (Sociology-Baltimore, MD), was the second highest scorer for the Firebirds with 9 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists, followed by sophomore guard Keith Brooks (Mass Media- Harlem, NY)  with 7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal.

The Wildcats went into the break with a 50-22 lead, and led 45-36 in the second half. The Firebirds shot 26 percent from the field in the first half to the Wildcats' 58 percent.

The Firebirds shot 32 percent from the field, 39 percent from beyond the arc and 42 percent from the charity stripe for the game. The Wildcats shot 57 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point range and a searing 79 percent from the charity stripe.

Maalik Wayns paced the Wildcats to the win with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. Corey Stokes followed with a 20 point, 7 rebound2 assists and 1 steal performance. Corey Fisher added 17 points, 5 rebounds6 assists and 3 steals.

The Firebirds open their regular season at home on November 12, at 6 p.m., against the St. Augustine's College Falcons.
