UDC Men's Basketball Continues to Struggle, Dropping Game to Mansfield, 81-74

Mansfield, PA: November 24, 2009-- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Men's Basketball Team continues to struggle in their young season as they fell to the Mansfield University Mountaineers, 81-74, tonight at Decker Gymnasium in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. Yuseff Carr paced the Mountaineers to the win with 23 points and 8 rebounds.

The Mountaineers took a 17-6 lead early in the first half, but the Firebirds came back to keep the score close, tying the score once and taking a 24-23 lead on a layup by sophomore forward Chris Leach (Washington, DC) with 7:29 remaining in the half. Mansfield regained the lead and went into the half time break with a , 39-36, advantage on 46 (13-28) percent shooting from the field, while UDC shot 44 (15-34) percent from the field during the half.

 The second half saw Mansfield take a 15 point lead at one point on a 17-5 run. UDC would not go away, battling back to within 4 points when Leach made a layup with 1:18 remaining. Mansfield came back to can 3 points in the last minute to seal the victory. Mansfield shot 51 (29-57) percent from the field for the game.

 In addition to Carr, three other Mountaineers reached double figures, including Tony Fannick with 21points, Justin Simmons with 15 and Ryan Callahan with 14.

Sophomore guard Nigel Munson (Washington, DC) led the Firebird scoring with a game-high 26 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists. Freshman guard Keith Brooks (Harlem, NY) followed with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, and Kenneth James, a freshman guard from Arlington, VA) added 14 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal.

 UDC (0-4) will return to action on November 29, at 3 p.m., at West Chester University.
