UDC Senior Guard Kechan Myers Finishes with Game-high 28 Points in Columbia Union Defeat

Washington,DC : February 29, 2009—Senior guard Kechan Myers(Philadelphia, PA) closed out his collegiate playing career  with a game-high 28 point, five rebound performance in the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds’, 79-63, win over the Columbia Union Pioneers tonight at the Physical Activities Center. Myers and senior forward Rasheed Cole (Alexandria, VA), who scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds, were honored in a pre-game ceremony that recognized their achievements on the court and in the classroom, as they played in their final home game for the Firebirds.

Shooting 50 percent (28-56) from the field, 31 percent (5-16) fromm beyond the arc, and 69 percent (18-26) from the charity stripe, the Firebirds were able to stave off a late Pioneer rally to put the game in their win column.

In addition to Myers and Cole, scoring in double figures were sophomore guard Tim Ellison (Alexandria,VA) with 20 points and 5 rebounds, and junior guard David Burton with 17 points and8 rebounds. The Firebirds scored 42 points in the paint and made 10 fast break points. The UDC bench outscored the Pioneers’ bench 19-9.

Three Pioneers were in double figures, led by Shaheem McNair with 23 points, four rebounds and nine assists, followed by Dana Clark with 16 points and two rebounds, and Ade Adetosoye, who scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists. The Pioneers shot 46 percent from the field, 52 percent from three—point range and 80 percent (4-5) from the free-throw line for the game.

This was the final game of the 2008-09 season for both teams. UDC ended the season with an 11-16 record.
