Kutztown Drops UDC, 95-56

Kutztown, PA: December 17, 2008—Kutztown University Bears senior guard Dave Ben scored a game-high 32 points in their, 95-56, win over the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds, tonight, in Keystone Hall. The Firebirds kept pace with the Bears in the first half, and trailed by only 6 points at the half time break.

Kutztown broke the game wide open in the second half, shooting 52 percent for the period (22 for 42), and 50 percent (38 for 76) the entire game, compared to UDC’s 36 percent (23 for 64) for the game. Four Bears were in double figures, including Ben, junior guard Stephen Dennis, who scored 23 points, senior guard Andre Woodlin, 19, and sophomore forward Ryan Washington recorded a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Firebirds also had four players in double figures, but with lower point totals. Senior guard Kechan Myers (Philadelphia, PA) tallied a 14 point, 10 rebound double- double, followed by junior guard David Burton (Philadelphia, PA), who recorded his own double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Time Ellison (Alexandria, VA) added 12 points and 1 rebound, and freshman center Ryan Wood (LaSalle, Ontario, Canada), playing in only his second game of the season, tallied 11 points and grabbed 2 rebounds.

The Firebirds fell to 3-8 for the season, while the Bears improved to 7-8. UDC returns to action on Saturday, December 20, at home, in the second game of double-header against Mansfield State University at 3 p.m.
