Alderson-Broaddus Slams UDC, 82-57

Philippi, WV: December 13, 2008—It was not a good night for the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds at the Alderson-Broaddus Classic in Philippi, West Virginia, as they were defeated by their host, 82-57, in a fairly lop-sided contest. Except for a tied score at 9, early in the game, the Battlers led the Firebirds most of the game, shooting 55 percent (32 for 58) in field goals, 43 percent( 9 for 21) from beyond the arc and 50 percent ( 9 of 18) from the free throw line.

Senior guard Sam Liggins led the Battlers to the victory, scoring a game-high 22 points and grabbing 3 rebounds. Stan Hall, a senior guard, followed with 19 points, and senior forward Montel Lee added 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Coming off the bench, sophomore guard Tim Ellison (Alexandria, VA) kept the Firebirds in the game, scoring 20 points and collecting 2 rebounds. Junior forward David Burton (Philadelphia, PA) was the only other UDC player to reach double figures, as he pumped in 11 points. Senior guard Kechan Myers (Philadelphia, PA) added 9 points and 4 rebounds to the effort.

UDC fell to 3-7 with this loss, and will next face Kutztown University, in Kutztown, Pennsylvania on December 17, 2008.
