UDC LOSES DOUBLEHEADER TO ST. PAUL’S

Lawrenceville, VA-November 22, 2005: St. Paul’s College defeated the University of the District of Columbia in doubleheader games tonight in Lawrenceville, Virginia. The Lady Firebirds fell to the Lady Tigers in the first game of the evening by the score of 61-68.

Senior guard Deidra Bumbrey was the high scorer for UDC, tallying 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal in the loss. Junior forward Jennifer Jones dropped in 16 points, grabbed 4  rebounds and had 1 steal. The Lady Firebirds shot 40 percent from the field and trailed the Lady Tigers 23-25 at halftime.

Katrina Wright led the Lady Tigers in their win with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Nikki Brown followed with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

The Lady Firebirds, whose season record is now (1-3), will next play the Virginia Union Lady Panthers, Monday, November 28, in Richmond, Virginia.

The UDC Firebirds also lost their game against St. Paul’s tonight in the second game of the doubleheader by the score of 55-85. Senior guard Jumaane Sorrells led the Firebirds with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals. Senior forward Brian Isabelle contributed 10 points and 3 rebounds to the losing cause. Junior forward Glenn Nickens grabbed 10 rebounds, had 1 assist and 2 steals. The Firebirds shot 40 percent from the field and trailed 20-45 at the break.

The (0-3) Firebirds will see their next action against the  2005 NCAA Division II National  Basketball Champions Virginia Union Panthers on Monday, November 28, in Richmond, Virginia.
