SALEM INTERNATIONAL TIGERS DEFEAT UDC FIREBIRDS

Washington, DC- The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds were out gunned by the Salem International Tigers, 77-42, in basketball action tonight in Washington, DC. After a slow start, Salem turned up the heat and outscored the the Firebirds 36-19 at the end of the first half, hitting 45 percent of their shots from the field. Salem continued their run in the second half doubling their lead and leaving UDC in their wake as they led by as many as 34 points before putting them away. Leading the Tigers was Herman Davis with 22 points in 8-16 field goal shooting, and 4-4 free shooting while pulling down 15 rebounds from the boards. Shaun Mckie added 11 points, 10 assists and 1 steal to the victory.

Jumaane Sorrells led the Firebirds with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in the losing effort. Donnell Ellis dropped in 13 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and had 3 assists in the game.  

UDC’s next game will be against St. Augustine’s University on Tuesday, December 13, at home. The Firebirds season record is now 0-6.
