ALDERSON-BROADDUS DELIVERS A BLOW TO UDC

Washington, DC: The Alderson-Broaddus Battlers handed the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds their 10th consecutive defeat tonight, 68-56, in the UDC Gymnasium. The 12-point loss was very painful to the young and struggling Firebirds. The final score really does not tell the entire story.

The score was close for most of the game, but the lack of experience and gel time kept UDC in the losing column. The score was tied (13-13) at 12:18 in the first half when Frank Peterson laid the ball up off the glass. UDC trailed by only 1-point at the break (32-33), and actually hit a higher percentage of their first-half field goals (46%) than Alderson-Broaddus (40%).

The lead changed 9 times, and the score was tied -8 times. The bench scores made the difference with Alderson-Broaddus’s bench outscoring the UDC bench 15 to 9.

Zach Green paced the Battlers with 16 points, followed by Derrick Bell with 15, and Samario Clancy with 13 points. Frank Peterson hit a career high 23 points, while Jumaane Sorrells pumped in 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Donnell Ellis added 11 points.

UDC’s next opponent will be cross-town rival Bowie State University. That game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., January 4, 2006, in Bowie, Maryland.
