Bio

Director of Athletics Patricia Thomas, announced the promotion of former head women's Cross Country/Track & Field coach, Joel Phillip, as the new Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations on Monday, February 3rd

Phillip joined the Athletic department back in the Fall of 2016, as the Head Coach for the women's Cross country and Track & Field programs. Over the course of three years, he led his student-athletes to a third place East Coast Conference Indoor Championship finish and a second place East Coast conference Outdoor Championship finish. He boasts multiple All-Conference student athletes, one ECC Elite 19 honoree, a Reslyn Henley award recipient who went on to win the ECC's Excellence in Community and Character award, and an ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championship MVP athlete.  He also coached two 4x400m relay teams who earned a plaque at the 2017 and 2019 Penn Relays. 

Phillip earned his bachelor's in interdisciplinary studies in Exercise and wellness recreation management in 2009 at Arizona State University. He then went on to receive his Master of Art degree in Sports Management from Lindenwood in 2014. While studying to get his masters, he assisted in coaching the first six All-Americans in program history.   

During his collegiate career, he served as team captain at Central Arizona in 2007 and at ASU from 2008-2010. He also served on the Track & Field Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at ASU from 2009-2010. He led both his teams to National championships and represented Grenada in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
