UDC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Programs Earn East Coast Conference Academic Team of Excellence Awards

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY - The University of the District of Columbia men's and women's tennis teams were each announced recipients of the East Coast Conference Academic Team of Excellence Award for the 2015-16 academic year.

The ECC Academic Team of Excellence Award is presented to the team with the highest cumulative grade point average in its respective sport. The Firebirds women's tennis team had a combined grade point average of 3.586 while the men's tennis team came in at 3.534. This marks the 3rd time head coach Dickie Mahaffey's UDC women's tennis team has earned the honor, and the 2nd time his men's tennis team has earned it in the last four years.

"Congratulations to all of the programs that have been recognized as our ECC Academic Teams of Excellence," said ECC Commissioner, Dr. Robert Dranoff. "Each year we continue to be so impressed by the work put in by our student-athletes who are committed to excelling in all parts of their lives. We are happy to be able to provide a little bit more recognition for those efforts."

Founded as the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference in 1989 and rechristened the East Coast Conference in July 2006, the ECC was formed to enhance intercollegiate athletic competition among member institutions and to assist them in integrating athletics into their academic program in a fiscally sound way.
