
Firebirds Deliver Strong Performances at VMI Winter Relay with Record-breaking Performances and Season Bests
Lexington, VA- the University of the District of Columbia women's track and field team delivered an impressive performance at the VMI Winter Relay, highlighted by Iyanna Jackson's National Provisional Qualifying time in the 60m dash, Emmanuela Katou Kouami's school record mark of 15.90m in the weight throw and Zoe Shaw's season best mark in the triple jump. Several Firebirds recorded season-best times and strong finishes across multiple events.
Top Performances
- Iyanna Jackson – 2nd place in the 60m dash (7.68s). In the prelims Jackson clocked a personal best, school record and National provisional qualifying time of 7.63s. She broke her teammate's, Dayna Thompson's two year record of 7.65s.
- Kayla Cooper – 4th place in the 60m dash (7.72). In the prelims Cooper hit a PR of 7.70s
- Zoe Shaw – 2nd place in the triple jump (11.62m / 38-01.50). This is a season-best mark.
- Emmanuela Katou Kouami – 4th place in the weight throw (15.90m / 52-02.00). Kouami's mark is a new school record and makes the third time this season that she's broken her own record.
Additional Strong performances
- Dayna Thompson – 12th place in the 200m dash (26.30). Thompson also ran a season best in the 60m dash with a time of 7.95s.
- Ayesha Jarrett – 9th place in the 400m dash (1:00.04)
- Samantha Morrison – 11th place in the 800m run (2:25.92)
- Emmanuela Katou Kouami – 10th place in the shot put (10.78m / 35-04.50)
UDC will now gear up to compete in the East Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships which is set for February 16th in Staten Island, N.Y.
