Kianna Franklin Scores Two First Half Goals in Loss to Bridgeport

WASHINGTON, DC – The University of the District of Columbia women's lacrosse team fell, 21-3 to East Coast Conference foe University of Bridgeport, Sunday afternoon at UDC Sports Complex.

The Firebirds now 1-12 overall and 0-7 in ECC play were led by sophomore Kianna Franklin with two goals. After today's two goals, Franklin currently has 33 points and surpasses the record for points in a season, a record held previously by former standout lacrosse athlete Amber Walls in the 2016 season with 31 points.

Standout freshman Shemara Jefferson scored the first of UDC's three goals and takes her total of goals to 14 so far this season.

Sophomore goalie Jada Foy added 12 saves to her impressive record this year that places her 5th in the ECC for saves with 110.

The University of Bridgeport improved to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play, and their efforts were carried by Barbara Orsini with a game-high 10 goals and two assists, and Courtney Forry added five goals and four assists in the Purple Knights victory.

The Firebirds will host NYIT in their final game of the season, Saturday, April 28th at 12PM, where UDC will honor senior Dagmawit Betru for a day that includes faculty and staff appreciation day and a Make-A-Wish fundraiser.
