Amherst, NY - The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Daemen University on Saturday at Karrer Field. The Firebirds earned their third win of the season and first three points in ECC play.
UDC opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Axel Gamez netted an unassisted goal to give the Firebirds a 1-0 lead. However, Daemen responded quickly with a penalty kick goal from Rayane Baitiche just a minute later to level the match at 1-1.
The decisive moment came in the second half when Santiago Gordillo Martinez scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute, assisted by Isaiah Daniel. UDC's defense held firm for the remainder of the match, with goalkeeper Sergio Becerra making six key saves to preserve the win.
