Clutch Goal by Velluto Overshadowed by ESU last minute Penalty Kick

Washington, DC- The University of the District of Columbia men's soccer team fell to East Stroudsburg after a penalty kick made by the Warriors in the last ten seconds of play made its way to the back of the net to end the game 2-1.

It was a slow first half for the Firebirds offensively as they spent majority of the time on defense. They were led defensively by Goalkeeper Javier Abadia who saved five out of the six shots taken by the Warriors. Both teams would go into the second half without making it onto the scoreboard.

Things became a bit heated in the second half as Jason Mayorga was given a yellow card at the 66thminute and was later followed up by a red card given to his teammate Jake bedforth. It wasn't until ten minutes left in the game that a shot made its way into the net, in favor of the Warriors. Eight minutes later Gabriel Velluto came in clutch sending the ball past the Warriors goalkeeper and into the net to bring the game to a tie.

In the last ten seconds of the game a yellow card was called on Abadia, and the Warriors were able to score a goal off of a penalty kick to bring the game to an end with the results 2-1 in ESU's favor.

UDC (4-10, 2-3 ECC) will continue Conference play this Saturday October 26that 1:00PM as they host New York Tech at the UDC Field.
