Curtis Posts Career-High 25 Points in Conference Match Up Against Staten Island

Washington, D.C. -The University of the District of Columbia men's basketball team put forth a spirited effort but fell short in a close 84-78 contest against the College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. Despite some strong individual performances, the Firebirds couldn't overcome Staten Island's balanced attack.

UDC trailed 49-41 at halftime but mounted a late-game rally in the second half, outscoring Staten Island 37-35. However, critical plays by Staten Island in the closing minutes, including a three-pointer by pre-season player of the year Messiah Mallory, secured the victory for the Dolphins.

Tevin Curtis led the Firebirds with a career and game-high 25 points, shooting 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and 58.8% from the field. Khyrie Staten added 14 points and 2 steals, while David Pope contributed 11 points and 6 rebounds off the bench. Staten Island's Messiah Mallory led the Dolphins with 20 points and 11 rebounds in a dominant double-double performance.
