Firebirds Place second at the ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Farmingdale, N.Y.- The University of the District of Columbia women's Track and Field team placed second at the ECC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday April 20th.

Shannell Hibbert had a busy day at the Championships contributing 52 points to the Firebirds, placing top three in every event that she participated in. She won the 400m hurdles with a season best time of 1:04.69 and won the 100m hurdles. She placed second in the 100m with a time of 12.58s and third in the 200m with a season best time of 25.84s. She was also on the winning 4x100m relay team and on the 4x400m relay team that placed second.

Cierra Roberts also had a busy day, winning the Long Jump and placing second in the 400m with a life time best time of 58.82s. She placed second in the 200m with a season best time of 25.56s and sixth in the 100m. She was also on the 4x100m and 4x400m relays that placed first and second.

Shaneika Bowra won the 200m with a season best time of 25.06s and placed third the 100m with a time of 12.56s. She also ran anchor leg for 4x100m team.

Other standout performances came from Freshman Nyla Houston who placed second in the discus throw and second in the shot put to score 18 points for the Firebirds. Freshmen Shanise Rose and Patricia Albert contributed some points of their own, with Rose placing third in the 100m hurdles and Albert placing third in the long jump. Temera Duncan placed third in the discus throw and Tajah Franklin placed third in the shot put. Mia-Alexis Lloyd also placed fourth in the Javelin.

In the end, the Firebirds lost by one point and was runner up to rivals Robert Wesleyan at the ECC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

"We came to the track with the mindset to win the Championship but fell short by one point. Are we disappointed? Yes but guess what, we will be back next Indoor and Outdoor hungrier and more focused to get the job done!" Said Coach Phillip.

The Firebirds are back in action on Thursday April 25 at the Penn Relays.
